2D

2D fundamentals let me learn a lot of knowledge of graphic design . The lecturer is very friendly, she is a part-time lecturer and she is very conscientiousness and discipline person. I like her  teaching way. She is the one of the lecturer collect our sketch book to check our sketch book update and give us guide to update our sketch book completely.

The first lesson in 2D design is about the dots and lines. In this lesson , we learn about how to create the dots and lines without a shape and form. All of 2D design principles must need balance, harmony, unity, contrast, movement and rhythm to build up our whole piece work. Wasily Kadinsky is a painting music artist.Kandinsky is believed to have had synaesthesia, a harmless condition that allows a person to appreciate sounds, colours or words with two or more senses simultaneously.Synaesthesia is a blend of the Greek words for together (syn) and sensation (aesthesis). The earliest recorded case comes from the Oxford academic and philosopher John Locke in 1690, who was bemused by "a studious blind man" claiming to experience the colour scarlet when he heard the sound of a trumpet. The almost indestructible support on the one hand and the speed of production on the other correspond perfectly with the mentality of our time. Point, line, plane, black and white, works in color - everything can be obtained with the greatest economy. The lithographic technique (for example the flexibility while working on the stone, i.e., the easy way of putting the ink on it with any kind of tool; the almost unlimited possibilities for mits) corresponds in the highest degree with both the internal and the external necessities of today.

Firstly, the lecturer played some very joyful music and we draw anythings by using line and dots with friend. I same group with my friend Bella. We trying to make the work seems like a piece of work.I mean when the people saw our drawing will think that was a personal work and never feeling the work were done by 2 people. So we change the direction constantly. Finally we done the work very well.We successful done the work that seems like a piece of work.

After that is the turn to draw the piece of work by ourselves by followed the tempo of the music. We took part in a bench graphic design. Our lecturer played some music that inspired me to draw some whimsical things. My design concept is "the end of the world".The waves of the sea represents the sea.Using different sizes of the triangle as the fish head and teeth and different sizes of semicircle shape of fish scales and the body.Fish represents the creatures of the sea.The waves are hid the sun that means the sun engulfed by the sea.The sun represents the sky and the earth. The sun is consumed and all living creatures then sucked into the black hole. This means the end of the world will take everything away.

The end of the world

Challenge Camp NAFA

 CHALLENGE CAMP NAFA

Day 1 -I attended a challenge camp at NAFA for 2days1night. It was a different experience to me. This is a first year student of life, only open to the 1st year students.  The first day we gather at 6 o 'clock in the evening. My friends didn't attend the camp, so I am alone to join this camp. Fortunately, all seniors are very kind.We draw lots to choose team to ensure the fair . I was chosen to green team . I found that my team was very unbalance the number of the girls and boys . The boys were just 4 people. After distribution of our group , we start to introduced ourselves , our groups had very excellent morale .

We were really like doomed to make each other together . The senior told us the instructions and the rules then we went back to our dormitory at campus v together. OMG , there was no lift , we need to walked up the stairs to level 3. The problem was we are holding a lot of things , its too heavy . After a general twists and turns,we had a barbeque dinner . But its raining , we just barbeque under the roof.

We moved to the halls and start to make our team flag . Our group name was 'green light' . So, our design concept was the traffic light with the horror face. Because of our materials was all green , so we decided to change the colour of materials with another groups , some of the group didn't wanted to change with us , and some of the groups also realized  that one of the colour cannot make the things contrast and make the perfect effect. So we successfully changed a lot of colours. But our main colour was the green colour . The material of making the flag was divided to 2 pack, they just gave us the 1st pack on first day , the second pack was gave us on the second day, so we try to make the conservative design of the first day to make sure the second day's material can put onto our design.
The expedition was the first day of the night ,but the event is cancelled because of the heavy rain.We all felt very disappointed. Then the activity was changed to tell ghost stories. In fact is not scary But there are people felt scared.
Then we watched a ghost movie .Since already 1 am and I feel sleepy. Me and some friends wanted back to our room to rest first because we know that the second day morning will be a nightmare- Don't want to get up but hard pull to wake up, that was a bad feeling . But I didn't sleep well all night because the air conditioning is too cold.

DAY 2-After we had Mc Donald Breakfast .. we continue our team flag . It was done after 30minutes. We need to choose what we want to learn such as dance, talk to senior, cartoon drawing, graffiti and draw the batik pattern. I was chosen the graffiti. We learnt about the basic of graffiti like draw a circle from small to big and draw a line from fine to thick . Then, we start to draw some simple cartoon on the mahjong paper. After a few time, we just draw whatever we want on the wall . This was a fascinating try.

Then , we enjoyed our lunch and start to run-AMAZING RACE.Before that, our face became an army face or cat face whatever. Then we show our face like that and challenging the game outside. We really run from Bras Basah to Dhoby Ghaut and turn back to school. It was really tired but worth .

In the end , we got the 1st place but our gift was broken , so our place drop to 3rd. We never disappointed , we will continue efforts and reach the best in the future. The performance of dance make dance performances make atmosphere to the climax.  We got contact to our teammates and say goodbye by the way.

This was a very fantastic camp in this year.  I learned the group cooperation must be someone lead someone to obey. This will be a good team work.I learned to do things to have confidence and don't give up easily even the situation is very worse.I will never forget what we learn in life in the camp and the wonderful memory of life in the camp. Thank you my senior and my GREEN LIGHT team members. I love u guys.

SINGAPORE ART MUSEUM

SINGAPORE ART MUSEUM

Shaggy - Mella Jaarsma

We went to art museum during the creative thinking class. We went there to look over a hairstyle , Shaggy.Mella Jaarsma is best known for her costume installations which use materials such as animal skins , horns and clothing - item charged metaphoric ability of race, identity, and human nature, sexual orientation, religion, politics, and origin.
In her work Shaggy, Mella Jaarsma takes on hair as a symbol of womanhood, and all its attendant its attendant associations with eroticism , gender stereotypes and identity.

We done the culture hairstyle together . Our pieces work was very colourful and funny . The question ask us , if Shaggy was war on our head , the feeling is..? Erm.. I think it was very warm. It is not really suitable in Singapore . If my hairstyle like this , the people will never stop to looking at me , I will become famous in the school like that , haha.

Cage

Cage- Li Hui

Artist Li Hui works with laser beams that sculpt and define the spaces they inhabit , even as they evoke otherworldly dimensions. In Cage, Li Hui uses green lasers to create two virtual cages that appear alternately. The effect os these immaterial beams of light creates an impression of something solidly material, which in turn triggers instinctive responses of disorientation and even anxiety in viewer , who find the "trapped" one moment , and standing outside the object of their imprisonment the  next.

Memory Rilts - Mark Wong

Memory Rifts expand the perceptual potential of a single audio composition , while probing how the mind receives, and recalls, acoustic information .
It is the chance and repeated encounters of its melodies and motifs, rhythms and rifts, points and counterpoints, that prompt an active - albeit unconscious - act of listening .

Chicken Rice in the Border - Bui Cong Khanh

In this work, Bui Cong Khanh investigates the provenance of Hoi An Chicken Rice, originally brought to Hoi An by Chinese  immigrants as Hainanese Chicken Rice, before adaptation and assimilation into Vietnamese food culture resulted in a uniquely local dish.

Untitled - MIT JAI INN

Untitled comprises of a series of sculptural by Mit Jai Inn, composed and part-sculpture, such is the nature of Mit's highly lyrical and textured works, which seek to make indistinct the boundaries between high art and craft objects, and liberate the experience of artworks from what artist perceives as the convention and form of visual art. At times presented as hanging scrolls, and other tomes as well of visual art. At times presented as hanging scrolls, and other times as wall pieces, the versatile quality of the canvases are characteristic of the Thai artist's practice. In effect, the malleable nature of his work allows for the situating of art in multiple contexts, challenging abstract painting to perform or function as a rarefied piece of fine art, or merely as a common object.

The Overview Installation - Eugene Soh

The Overview Installation, quite literally, transforms the way we see the world and ourselves. Donning one of the sets of modified goggles, a participant's normal viewpoint is replaced by an image streamed from closed-circuit televisions. Moreover, varied configurations in the goggles and CCTV feeds allow for differing kinds of perspective: from the third-person or 'god view' from above; to the second-person or 'vice-versa' image that two participants will see of , and form , each other ; and that of lateral vision, which simulates the perspective that most animals possess, such as lizards and horses.

I was very enjoyed my time to visit at art museum .This time of the visit made me feel the charm of different works.Increase a lot of knowledge and got idea of different design concept .Hope in the coming days, my work also to show to the public like their work.
